COACHES

Welcome to AYSO Region 65. We thank you for volunteering your time and service to our program.

It is important that you understand and implement AYSO's philosophy, for it is you who will have the most contact with and impact upon our young participants.

Remember that we are playing the game for fun, and for the fun of the children. While you should encourage the very best performance out of your team, never lose sight of the fact that it is just a game.

Steps To Become A Coach

To sign up to Coach, email: [email protected] and provide the following:
Name:
Phone number (prefer mobile):
email address:
Division (10 Girls, 12 Boys, etc):
Player Name (usually your child):
Head coach or Assistant Coach:

How old do I have to be to coach?
You must be 18 years old or older to be an AYSO coach. Though AYSO appreciates and encourages young people to participate in all aspects of soccer including coaching, an individual under 18 years of age may not be listed as the head coach or assistant coach on the official roster, due to liability issues. They can certainly assist in training and even make decisions regarding the team, but can't ever be left alone with players and can't be listed on the official roster.

CHANGES FOR FALL 2018 - Clic kfor Updated Video

2018 AYSO Player Development Initiative
Covers the referee implementation of 10U and 12U PDI in Section 1

6U & 8U
Throw-ins

Throw-ins are replaced by Kick-ins.  We have decided to stop allowing "dribble-ins".  The player must place the ball on the ground and kick it into play.  That player may not be the next player to touch the ball.  And, like throw-ins, no goal may be scored directly off of a kick-in, and opponents must be 2 yards away from the restart.

12U
Keeper Punts

Keepers are allowed to punt the ball in 12U

10U
Keeper Punts

No Punting
RESTART: IFK, if inside the goal area, ball is moved to goal area line parallel to goal line

Build-out line
For a goal-kick or keeper possession, the opponents must retreat behind the build-out line.
If the keeper does not choose to wait, then an opponent who has not retreated is allowed to intercept the ball.
This has been a cause for confusion, even in the training video on our website.

Goal Keeper Possession
a. Opponents move behind BOL
b. Opponents may cross BOL once the ball is released from the Goal Keeper's hands
c. If opponents cross BOL before Keeper releases ball, and interfere with play
RESTART: IFK on BOL where infraction occurred
d
.. Ball may be kicked to any point on the field

Goal Kick
a. Opponents move behind BOL
b. Opponents may cross BOL once the ball leaves the Penalty Area

c. If opponents cross BOL before ball leaves the Penalty Area, and interfere with play
RESTART: Goal Kick is Retaken.
d
. Ball may be kicked to any point on the field

Build-out line is used to determine offside (no longer halfway line)

Some things to Remember

Remember the 'Everyone Plays" rule. Every one of your player's must play at least three quarters of each game during the regular season and during the playoffs. It is suggested that the same players should not always sit out the first quarter of each game, so that they do not think of themselves as permanent substitutes.

Cooperate with the referees. They are volunteers like you and make mistakes like you. And please insist that the parents of the players maintain decorum at all times. Remember - we do not allow protests.  Hold practices, one or two a week. They mean more than the games. I strongly recommend two, depending on your own time commitments.  Make sure you know the game and the coaching techniques found to be most successful. We have available for you several publications / videos' s which ran help you, and we will hold a series of clinics to further your knowledge.

My staff and I will be glad to personally assist you in any way we ran. Have a great season and best of luck to your team!
