Flames Committment

Participating in Flames is a family commitment of both time and money.
Region Fee is $350 (2026) - which covers the uniform (typically 2 shorts, 3 socks, 3 jerseys, and a bag)
Fundraising is then required to pay for tournaments.  Each team typically plays 6-10 tournaments, and each tournament costs $500-$900 (often with a refundable referee deposit if refs are provided)
So the teams must raise $3000-$9000, depending on how many tournaments they choose.  All the players must participate in the fundraising (specific activities are chosen by the team)

The team plays in the Grape Stomp tournament (in Rancho) for free, but is asked to support the tournament (parents and players) both before and during the tournament.  This is also a fundraiser for the team - typically earning $1000-$2000 for each team.

Tournaments are a full weekend affair.  Occasionally Friday night, but always all day Saturday and Sunday.  The furthest tournaments are usually Bullhead City NV, San Diego & Camarillo.  Some of these may require hotel stays.

Missing practices (2/week, 90 minutes each) or games has a significant negative impact on the team.   Each player is expected to prioritise participation in all team activities.

Select Teams

This is an AYSO travel team that plays in matches and tournaments all across Southern California. It is a great way for the players to improve their skills as soccer players in a fun and competitive environment. The purpose of this team is to allow those players from the Fall Season who have demonstrated soccer ability and who have displayed an attitude for fair play, enthusiasm and cooperative team spirit to participate on a team of players who have similar qualifications.  Practices will begin in early February and the season will end in July.

Participation on this team requires an increased commitment from both parents and players, including attendance at all practices and matches as well as a sense of responsibility toward coaches and other team members.  This team will compete in tournament play; these tournaments include travel and both Saturday and Sunday matches. The team is financially self-supporting, so fund-raising will be required for each player and parents are expected to participate.

All coaches will be given the opportunity to submit an application to coach in the Select Travel Program. Coach candidates must meet or exceed the training requirements as stated in Region Guidelines covering the coach program and have coached in the most current fall season, ideally in the division requesting.

Coach Eligibility
All coaches will be given the opportunity to request a Spring Select Travel Team. Coach candidates must meet the following qualifications:
1. Coached in the most current regular season, ideally in the Division requesting
2. Demonstrated commitment to the AYSO organization and support of the basic philosophies
3. Meets the required coach certifications:
10U Division – 10U and 12U coach or higher
12U Division – 12U coach; Intermediate highly recommended
14U Division – Intermediate coach; Advanced highly recommended
16U & 19U Division – Advanced or higher
4. Certified as a Regional Referee or higher

AYSO Select coaches should possess coaching knowledge, leadership qualities, and most importantly the ability and the desire to embrace the spirit and philosophies of AYSO.

Please check bit.ly/r65select and this page periodically for updates and upcoming tryout dates for the next Flames Spring season.
